Our Picks for Your Summer Pics

BY Jeff Peden

Summer is filled with festivals, hikes, vacations, and weekend road-trips. All of which need to be captured and shared with your family, friends, and followers. As you head out on your warm-weather adventures, our team of visual artists want to share some of their favorite photo and video app recommendations. Experiment with these apps to create visuals that stand out from the norm and/or compensate for poor shooting conditions.

Bent Camera – $5.00

This app is still in its early versions from an independent developer, but our tech support specialist can’t get enough of the color glitch effect. See what others are creating on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/bentcamera/

Available on: iOS

FiLMiC Pro – $14.99

At $15, this one feels a little steep to most users, but when your Final Cut Pro-loving video editor endorses it, you know it’s worth the money. The Pro version is packed with options, including plenty of frame rate choices–along with the ability to sync audio frame rates. Those less-skilled among us will appreciate the ability to adjust exposure, contrast, saturation, tint, and color temperature post capture.

Available on: iOS and Android

Mextures – $1.99

To really get in touch with your artsy side, try Mextures, and blow the doors off the standard Instagram filters. This app allows for layered film grain, textures, light leaks and gradients effects with your images. It claims to be the fastest app around, and we always appreciate an app with a non-destructive workflow–which means you can continue to experiment with changes to your photo during the editing process. The guest formulas are an interesting way to see how other creatives are approaching photo manipulation.

Available on: iOS

Snapseed – Free

Google is the developer behind the very capable, photo-editing app Snapseed. You will find plenty of tools with adjustable settings for every variable. Like Mextures, you can also layer effects or apply pre-built effects. The lens blur filter is a great tool for simulating a manual focus or emphasizing a tilt-shifted composition.

Available on: iOS and Android

Hopefully, one of these apps will fit your personal style and editing preferences to make all those summer memories picture perfect.

And… We’d love to see what you create with these apps, so be sure to share them with us on any of our social channels.
