Building Support for a More Literate, Educated and Connected Nashville

The Nashville Public Library Foundation leads the way for investing in the cultural and educational life of every Nashville citizen. By enhancing the programs, facilities and collections of the Nashville Public Library, the community supporters and private donors that form NPLF are helping to create a more literate, more educated, and more connected Nashville community.
We believe in NPLF’s mission, and we were honored when they asked us to help reimagine their brand image, print communications and web presence.
After talking with the NPLF board and staff, we realized the Foundation needed a logo with dual meaning. On one hand, they need to communicate a direct connection to the highly recognizable Nashville Public Library that is a division of the Metro Nashville government. On the other hand, it is essential to communicate that the Foundation is an independent organization that does not receive any government funding. This “line of distinction” found its way into the final logo design, and the overall typography was refined for a fresh, contemporary look that is more accessible to a wider audience.
To help facilitate donations, we created a clear and focused brochure that informs the community of NPLF’s mission and accomplishments. This brochure is used during community events funded by NPLF and incorporated into ongoing communication campaigns. Since private supporters are critical to sustaining the work of NPLF, we also included forms and instructions to facilitate donations.
It's impossible to redesign a brand image without considering its online presence. Our team designed NPLF’s new website to clearly communicate the organization’s five focus areas and to increase awareness of the tangible impact on the Nashville Public Library. As with the print piece, increasing volunteer and financial support is a primary goal. Therefore, the design includes prominent calls to action and clear paths for supporting the Foundation. The final product included a custom content management system and slick jquery front-end.
The process of working with Anode on our recent rebranding and identity package has been superb. Their challenge was to freshen our brand’s look to reflect our growth as an organization. The Anode team took time to understand our vision and learn our personality. Then, using their impressive arsenal of ideas and technology, they brought our mission to life. The new look has been well received by our board of directors, supporters and partners. I’m thrilled with the result!
